ABSTRACT

A trial to reduce post-operative pain and analgesics consumption after third molar removal, was done using bupivacine 0.75% for irrigation of the socket after extraction. There was significant reduction of pain scored on the first 4-12 h and on the first post-operative morning [P< 0.05]. There was also reduction of the analgesics consumption [P< 0.025], and paracetamol analgesic was enough to reduce pain in the trial group. This trial suggested that bupivacaine 0.75% irrigation had a value in third molar surgery and may be of use in more extensive maxillofacial procedures particularly when a large raw surface is opened

ABSTRACT

Cryosurgery offers a means of destroying tissue by subjecting it to extreme cold. The effectiveness and advantages of cryotherapy in the treatment of various oral mucosal lesions is well accepted, in spite of the mechanism by which cells are die as yet poorly understood. The treatment of oral lichen planus and leukoplakia using cryosurgery was discussed. An overview of the clinical and histological changes occuring after this treatment also was presented

ABSTRACT

Edema and trismus are undesirable consequence of oral surgical procedures. Although many pharmacological and physical methods have been used to minimize edema and trismus, no one has gained complete acceptance. Ultrasound is used in management of acute phases of inflammation of soft tissue in physiotherapy department. This study recommened the use of ultrasound therapy to reduce postoperative edema and trismus. It can be used effectively in cases where gross edema is expected after difficult operation. Ultrasound therapy is simple and easy, however it needs two visits to the therapist
